Inspired by the 1980s

Gated is our modern reimagining of the iconic gated reverb, a sound that defined the 1980s and shaped hits from artists like Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, and Prince.

The original effect was discovered by accident when the engineer left a talkback mic on during a Phil Collins drum session. The compressed room sound and noise gate created a huge, punchy drum with a sudden cutoff.
